Active Minds

A peer-driven movement reshaping how young people talk about mental health — from one campus to thousands.

For decades, the most acute mental health risks for young people were treated as private tragedies rather than public health crises. While at the University of Pennsylvania, Alison Malmon lost her older brother Brian to suicide — and decided that had to change.

After hearing Alison speak at the University of Akron, Peg’s championed Active Minds for its scalable, peer-driven model of campus mental health support. Beyond grant funding, Peg’s helped underwrite the Healthy Campus Award in 2016 and supports the Transformational Change Award honoring chapters that drive policy advocacy. The partnership now spans more than fifteen years.

Active Minds is present in more than 1,000 high schools, colleges, and communities, reaching over 8 million young adults each year. Peg’s invested in a strong leader, a unique idea and a scalable model that has been validated again and again as chapters drive cultural change from the inside out.
